The Office

Post placeholder image

Now that I’ve ended my moratorium regarding discussing work matters on this blog, just let me say how much I detest open-plan work space. I know it allows organizations to pack more people into the space and it is also suppose to foster better communication between team members, but it’s also distracting as hell. Plus, one has no privacy. Now granted I don’t expect the sort of privacy I get when I enter my own home, but for someone like myself who is extremely territorial (I’m a leo), I find myself getting upset when people invade or hover around the boundaries surrounding my desk. Or worse yet, comment on matters on my commuter screen. Also really annoying is having to listen to the pretentious xenophobic prat who sits next to me. God, on days like this, I do so miss working from a cube or better yet working from home.

    Got here through BlogMad.
They just rearranged our offices to be more open, still cubes but you back is to anyone who would walk up and the outer walls of the cube are glass. I hate it like this.

I used to joke that the carts and carts of books I used to keep around my desk were my “walls” since we have an open office here. I also joked was going to put tape on the gfloor ala Les Nesman of the old TV show WKRP in Cincinati to enforce my space. Now I have shifted my desk area around so my back (and consequently my computer screen) is to the wall and annoying faculty who come in HAVE to stand on the other side of my desk to talk to me 😀
