Running Again

Post placeholder image

I started running again and my whole body hurts. Yet I can’t wait to go out again, even though I know its slow going. It’s easy to spot me on the trail as I’m the one that everyone is passing up. Seriously, I couldn’t be doing more than a 10 minute mile. But hey, it’s a start. It would be great if I could run on my lunch break since I work from home most days, but it’s so hot now that it’s really not a good idea. I left the house today at around 4pm and ran the 2 miles down to chess pavillion past North Avenue Beach and by the time I got there, I had nothing left. So much for me running all the way to Navy Pier. The hot sun zapped everything out of me. So I ended up walking most of the way back. My goal is to run at least every other day. Here’s hoping that I stick to my commitment. I know I’ll feel better plus it will help me lose weight.

I haven’t run in years. Since high school actually. I joined the track team my freshman year because it was my last chance to get my numbers (selfish perhaps but I had priorities). I never really liked running so I opted to do the hurdles and high jump. I wasn’t good at either but it cut my running workouts down. I will say that track kept me in good shape for cheerleading and definitely built up my stamina and lung capacity. Unfortunately, it left me with shin splints so I don’t see myself running ever again unless it’s to pull my child out of the way of a runaway mack truck. Good luck with the new regimen.

When I’m actually involved in a training program of some sort, I hardly ever run faster than a 12 minute mile. Going faster than that usually means I’m bound to hurt myself eventually.

Know what the worst thing about running is?
    Running.
I’ve tried so hard to get into the running thing, but I just can’t do it. Even when I make someone else go with me to keep me going, I give up. I’m much better with biking or playing some kind of sport/game for exercise.
    Good luck to you!!

Hey, if I pulled out the long-unused jogging clothes (and they, miracle of miracle, still fit), I’d be overjoyed if I broke a 12-minute mile (just remember the first step of that thousand-mile journey and all that…)
