Run The Track

Every Olympics has a few Cinderella athletes and teams; those who just barely made it on a wing and a prayer. One of those this year is the Jamaican Bobsled Team who didn’t qualify for the last two Winter Games and only got there this year after using crowdfunding sites to raise money to cover expenses. This appeal tugged at quite a few hearts and brought back memories of the original Jamaican Bobsled Team that made its debut at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and was immortalised in the major motion picture Cool Runnings.

That being said was extremely excited to see the Jamaican Bobsled Team back at the Winter Olympics. They and the other small delegation of athletes from Caribbean islands show just what could be achieved if you look beyond your current environment and get involved in sports that are not traditionally native to your environment.

Anyway, the big moment came for the Jamaican Bobsled Team and they didn’t do very well in the rankings. In fact they came last or next to last on all three runs. But hey, just being there with the best in the world was victory enough and I’m sure in another generation or two, they’ll be on the medal stand. In the meantime, will just enjoy this catchy theme song and music video that was created for them.
