Preachers and Porn

Post placeholder image

I know preachers are flawed human beings just like the rest of us, but I really don’t want to hear about their addiction to porn. Granted looking at porn sites can be destructive to the family unit and so therefore should be seriously dealt with, should my preacher be afflicted, I want him to seek appropriate counsel, but keep it quiet. Were it to be revealed to the entire congregation that my minister is addicted to porn, I just don’t think I could go back to hear him preach — I would consider him to hypocritical — too human. Does this make sense? Probably not! I suppose I’m thinking that if a man/woman of God is having a difficult time leading a righteous life, what hope is there for sinners like me. Of course, if he’s taking it a step further and sexually preying on children, men and women within his congregation and the community at large, then he needs to be thrown to the wolves.

The Bible is clear that a Man is not to look upon a woman to lust after her. We are not to do what is not in the bible, however we are to conduct ourselves according to the bible. There is no excuse for our sin, no justification for it other than the blood of Jesus Christ. Even though its hard to do, Christ has given us the authority to conduct ourselves the way we should. We are the light of the world and we must bring God glory in all of our actions. There is neither any condemnation for those that are in Christ. No one has the right to condemn anyone. We are all sinners, but the bible makes it clear that if any man sin, to repent. and he is faithful and Just to forgive us and cleanse us of all unrighteousness. We need to humble ourselves before God and he will exalt us. If you have fallen, Get back up and keep trying to get it right. God will help you.

the bible is one of the most sexually depraved book i have ever read by so called christian standards let me remind the “holy” people that noah got drunk, lot had sex with his own daughters, hosea married a whore, moses committed murder by killing an egyptian, david and solomon had wives{plural} and concubines with God’s approval,Jesus was a descendant of rahab the harlot,Jesus forgave a whore and yet you so called christians who think that you are better than the messiah don’t have one forgiving bone in your entire being, paul was a murderer and false accusser and yet God used him to write over half the new testament that yall say you beleive in .My point being : everybody has skeletons in their closet as the saying goes and somene out there just might be Edgar J. Hoover “reincarnated” and might expose your secrets and you would not like it so don’t come in here with Jim JOnes attitude tellin’ yer steries”

Hypocritical? Why? I admit that I would be dismayed if my priest told me that he or she was a porn addict (or any kind of addict), but I don’t think that there’s anything hypocritical about admitting it and seeking help. It’s true that it’s not really something that you need to announce to your congregation or the whole world, but I don’t see that there’s any hypocrisy in doing so.

i’ve never understood why people believe clergy should be above human needs and wants? to force someone to go against their nature is a cause for depravity. look at catholic priests. if they were allowed to have normal adult relationships, perhaps they wouldn’t be raping children.
i see nothing wrong w/clergy looking at porn. would you rather he/she have an affair? addiction is something else and imo should be kept private, but would you rather the addiction be drugs or alcohol like many clergy? as far as addictions go, porn isn’t that bad.
