One Billion Dollars A Week

$1 billion per week. That’s how much it’s going to cost the US Government to fight this war in Iraq. Oh yeah, and according to Newsweek article, “that billion a week is just the beginning. It doesn’t include the cost of running Iraq’s government and rebuilding it, which could be an additional billion a month.” Now does this seem right? With the American economy in the crappers, thinking this money could have been better spent here in the US. Oh, and we haven’t even talked about the number of American soldiers who have and will continue to come home in body bags fighting a war that seem less justified. Does anyone remember Vietnam? Here’s hoping the pessimist in me gets proved wrong about this whole sorted mess. Here’s hoping they find Saddam along with those weapons of mass destruction soon. I really would like to believe in my President again.

I don’t think the war on Iraq was for oil and I do think Saddam Hussein was a threat. In intelligence reports he was described as “not an imminent threat” but that does not imply “not a threat”. But, the lives and resources lost in the war would be pointless if we don’t pursue other middle-eastern powers. Such as Iran, a nation full of young people who hate clerical rule and suffer under a regime that is trying to develop nuclear weaponry. Apparent in the resources it is buying from Russia for its “nuclear reactor” program supposedly designed for power. However, they have plenty of fuel for cheaper power and the heavy water in that list of resources from russia is unnecessary for a stable reactor.
Believe in Bush? I don’t believe any politician, I believe in myself. Politicians are compromised the moment they step into office and propose legislation, vote with your feet and your mind. Be educated. At least, that is my advice to every free human on the planet.
