On-stage suicide

The event planned below is sick beyond words. I’m all for personal choice (particularly is someone has a terminal illness), but this sort of performance is totally out of line. If the band does move forward, I hope the city takes full legal action.
On-stage suicide planned for gig

A ROCK group plans to orga nise an on-stage suicide at a concert this weekend, in defiance of a new city law designed to scuttle the plan.
The hard-rock band Hell on Earth said the suicide by a terminally ill person would take place in St Petersburg, Florida, to raise awareness of right-to-die issues.
The city council yesterday unanimously approved an emergency ordinance making it illegal to conduct a suicide for commercial or entertainment purposes, and to host, promote and sell tickets for such an event.
Circuit Judge John C. Lenderman of St Petersburg granted the city a temporary injunction against the band, preventing them from advertising the show and allowing the suicide.
But band leader Billy Tourtelot was defiant.
“The show will go on,” he said.

Hello kiddies, & welcome to the not-so-sunny underbelly of the Sunshine State! Even Cinderella’s Castle casts a shadow, ya know?
Okay, seriously, I agree with Andrew. In certain cases I do think that assisted suicide is (or should be) an acceptable & viable option. If you feel so compassionately toward your pet that you would do it for him/her, why not extend that same courtesy to a human family member? However, doing this at a rock concert? Hello?
The words “gross,” “stupid,” “mediawhore,” & “desperate” come to mind…
Not to mention just plain, “wrong.”

I’m all for euthanasia, but this is sick. This “event” is the kind of the thing put on by ignorant people who think they are helping their cause, when in fact they will end up losing support. Turning humane death into spectacle is not the way to change people’s hearts and minds. When people decide to die, they should do it on their own or with their families and close friends and it should be private.
