Natural Childbirth

Post placeholder image

My younger sister, who is due to give birth to her second child in a matter of weeks, is saying she won’t ask for the epidural this time. Trying to change her mind but in that I have not had any children, I have no moral authority. So interested in hearing from recent mothers who had their babies the natural way. Perhaps I’ll come around to her line of thinking.

I gave birth to my to children naturally. I was supported in this decision by my husband; during labor and birth I was supported by both my husband and my labor doula. Natural childbirth is a thrilling and empowering experience. Yes, it is normal to become pregnant and it is normal to labor and birth, however one should not enter lightly. Take a well rounded childbirth education class and read books in preparation for the event. And make sure those who surround you are trained, expereinced, and supportative.

Thanks for the feedback ladies. I was never a fan of using prescription drugs for anything, but the older I get the less tolerant I am of pain. So can’t imagine having a child without the aid of modern drugs to dull the pain. But I suppose you are right — women have been having babies for thousands of years without using any drugs, so I suppose it’s still ok to go natural. Ok, crossing legs as I type this. God help me when my turn comes!!

I had both my girls natural. It hurts – don’t get me wrong but what you imagine it hurts is a WHOLE lot worse than it actually does. Plus it gives you “mommy points” for many years to come. It’s not as bad as it sounds and I figure if a woman in Mexico can give herself a c-section after drinking rubbing alcohol I can have a baby without drugs.

My youngest will turn 3 next week, I don’t know if I still qualify as a ‘recent’ mother. I gave birth natural and it was the most amazing experience I’ve ever had. I was up and walking around within a hour of giving birth. My first child I had with an epidural and everything else that could be done short of having a c-section and it was a horrific experience that was very difficult to recover from.
I highly recommend anyone going natural if that’s what they have their mind set on. Since you haven’t given birth, you really shouldn’t try to talk your sister out of having the birth she WANTS to have. She could end up feeling pressured by you and feeling resentful. Be a wonderful supportive sister and share in the experience with her.
    Just my opinion.
