The London 2012 Olympics are in full swing and I’ve tried to watch as much of the events as possible. Particularly as BBC has 20+ channels so you don’t have to stay committed to what’s being broadcast on the main channel. So this afternoon decided to watch gymnasts. Really, I wanted to see Gabby Douglas known as “The Flying Squirrel” compete during the Artistic Gymnastics women’s Individual All-Around final.

She and the other girls on the American team that won Gold had done brilliantly, and so wanted to see if she would shine during the individual final. She didn’t disappoint. Her performances on all four apparatuses were beyond spectacular and I felt such pride for her. I couldn’t contain my excitement that I even gave her a shout out on social media before she’d actually won gold. I was so proud for her. Thus I can only imagine what it’s like for her Mom and the rest of her family and friends who are back in the States. She is so talented and I know will be a source of inspiration for lots of little girls and boys – black and white!
