Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Over the extended bank holiday weekend, I had a lovely time participating and watching the Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee Celebration. On Sunday, I headed into London to watch the 1,000-boat flotilla along the Thames River. I got to Embankment around 1pm and as it was so crowded I walked towards Blackfriars. However, things weren’t much better so just hung around, chatted to people, soaked up the atmosphere and later the rain. Still a great day out!

Monday I watched the Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace. The highlight was seeing Grace Jones hula-hooping her way through her performance of hit song: ‘Slave to the Rhythm.’ She is in great shape, but considering her mature age, I didn’t expect her to keep hitting all the right notes while shaking her thing. Just brilliant!

Then on Tuesday, I lounged in bed and watched the Carriage Procession from Westminster Hall to Buckingham Palace and finally the Balcony appearance, Flypast and Feu de Joie. It was all quite lovely and even though I don’t agree with the concept of Royalty, I found myself being charmed by it all. Queen Elizabeth’s reign has been good for Britian who are excellent at pageantry and so should be proud of themselves for putting on a great show!
