ArcelorMittal Orbit

I absolutely loved walking around the Olympic Park admiring the venues (those permanent and temporary) along with landscaped gardens and so can’t wait for it to open again. Unfortunately with major work taking place, it won’t be fully opened until spring 2014. So thankful that on the final day the park was open to the public, I was able to go up the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit which is a 115-metre-high (377 ft.) sculpture and observation tower. I was desperate to go up as I’d read so much about the controversial structure. Plus it was one of the first […]

The Climax

Boris Johnson’s speech at the end of the Greatest Team Parade for Team GB and ParalympicsGB signaled the official end to London 2012. And so I tip my orange bowler hat to the athletes, military, police, volunteers, Seth Coe and staff and really everyone involved in making the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games such a huge success. It’s been an amazing summer of sport and culture. Related posts: Three Months On London 2012 Games Makers Choir London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Our Greatest Team Parade

Last Hurrah

Towards the end of the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, I felt a soar throat coming on. Was most annoyed as I really had planned to stay out all night for the after party. But sensing that my body was calling for rest, I went home. However, the next day, I dragged myself to the Greatest Team Parade for Team GB and Paralympics GB. It would be the last hurrah for London 2012 and so I wanted/needed to be there. Particularly as I’d gotten a ticket to be in The Mall with the other volunteers. Thankfully, it was a glorious day and […]

London 2012 Paralympics: Closing Ceremony

It’s been a glorious summer here in London. And the Paralympics Closing Ceremony on Sunday night was a great way to end London’s successful Olympic and Paralympic Games. Prior to the night, my Audience Leader group had one rehearsal for the show. There were originally supposed to be about four rehearsal sessions but those got cut back as most of us had done the three prior London 2012 ceremonies and so we knew what to do. Also, as with the Olympics Opening Ceremony, this was very much going to be a party and things would be a lot more laid […]

I Am What I Am

One of the more emotional aspects of the London 2012 Paralympics Opening Ceremony came at the end were we Audience Leaders coached the audience to accompany those on the Field of Play/Stage to sign I Am What I Am. Writen by Mark Owens and originally sung by Gloria Gaynor back in the early 1980s, during the ceremony I Am What I Am was performed by Beverly Knight who did an amazing job. You can watch her outstanding and heartfelt rendition below. The wonderful lyrics are as follows: I am what I am I am my own special creation So come […]
