A Promise Kept

Meeting me at the airport at 5:26am on Saturday morning was none other than Racquetball Guy. It was so good to see him. It had been over a week since he’d left for St. Thomas, but it felt like a month. I tell you, absence does indeed make the heart grow fonder. It also made me more appreciative as I knew he had practically moved mountains to be there to pick me up. Any doubts I had about his commitment to our relationship immediately vanished. Any doubts that I had about his willingness to keep promises made – even in the face of adversity totally vanished. After all, he had promised to go to my friend’s wedding with me over a month ago and when the extended business trip to St Thomas came up, I thought he might not make it. He had a legitimate reason to back out.
But there he was in all his glory. I couldn’t be more pleased. We had breakfast at IHOP before heading back to my house to hang out. Later, we ran a few errands and then headed to his house to get dressed for my friend’s wedding. Let me say that we looked quite lovely — me in my peri blue halter top satin dress and he in a navy blue suit to compliment. And compliments we got at the wedding – mostly from friends but also from people we didn’t know. One person even told us that we looked like a movie star couple. That just made me blush from cheek to cheek.
The wedding itself was quite lovely. Both the ceremony and reception were at The Women’s Club of Evanston. The bride was stunning and the groom seemed really happy. Plus everything was just beautiful and also quite upscale without being pretentious. It’s the sort of wedding that most people aspire to, but probably never achieve. It was the sort of wedding that made you day dream about what you’d like for your own. Arrh, but that’s conversation for another day.
So here it is now Sunday, and Racquetball Guy has gone back to St. Thomas. He may be there for another month and I miss him already. But I know it’s not goodbye forever, so I take comfort that I’ll see him soon and talk to him even sooner. In the mean time, I’ve got to catch up on some sleep, friends and a few projects that need to be finished. It been an action packed last few days.

Andrew,
thanks for the compliment. Say, I thought it was you shouldn’t drop someone off at the airport at the beginning of a relationship. In any event, he insisted on picking me up. So there you have it.

Do you know Harry’s theory about how you’re never supposed to pick someone up at the airport at the beginning of a relationship? I mean, of course, Harry from “When Harry Met Sally.”
You do look smashing in that dress, by the way.

First things first: You looked fabulous in that dress!
Second: WOW! My mouth flung open and my jaw slammed the floor when I read that RbG, although he had every good excuse not to show, DID because he said he would!
WOW! Do you know how RARE that is these days? Ok, so, like he’s totally cool and I hope this works out because that says so! much about a person.
Did I say WOW yet? You may have waited awhile but LOOK WHO YOU FOUND! Impressive.

Thanks everyone for your compliments re how I looked in the dress.
As for me going to St. Thomas, that’s a possibility. Only time will tell if it becomes a reality.
