A Declaration

I do not wish to talk about affirmative action anymore. Not until the Supreme Court makes a decision on the two Michigan cases. The issue is simply too polarizing. With that said, most people who know me are surprised that I have been so vigorous in my defense of Michigan’s policy. Primarily because my inner circle is mostly white. But it’s particularly because of that reason why I feel the need to defend affirmative action. Every day, I’m exposed to white privilege – a privilege that most take for granted. So while I recognize that there are flaws in Michigan’s policy, I’m not willing to say disband it. Education is the only way to even the playing field and more minority students who meet a certain academic standard need access to that being offered by the premier colleges/universities.
