To Those With Me On This Journey

A number of bloggers have recently dropped me from their blogroll. I am disappointed, but I totally understand. My writing has stalled. Whereas before I would talk about what was going on in my life with great enthusiasm, I have being very quiet these last few months. I do not talk about job because that is not really a good idea to begin with and I don’ talk about my personal life because Racquetball Guy’s boss starting reading my blog. That sort of creeped me out. In addition, I am trying to be more considerate of people’s feelings, which to some degree means not being so open about everything that is going on around me since some people do not come off in the best light. Therefore, I’ve been holding back. Nevertheless, I am trying to make a comeback. I am trying to find my voice again. So to those of you that have kept me on your blogroll, know that I am quite appreciative.

  1. I wouldn’t drop you, Ursula! 😉 It does become difficult when you have to be selective about what you post. I can’t write about politics or family or new marriage/house/life frustrations because my blog is truly open to my company and family.
You do get used to it and find other things to write about if you do want to keep writing. Subjects like your recent Sports-O-Rama event become more common and those types of reviews open your blog to people searching for entertainment and reviews, not just those interested in your personal life. It’s a trade-off.

  2. OMG, i wouldn’t doubt I’ve suffered the same fate. i don’t blogroll, just keep a list of links & never fear, you ain’t going anywhere on smellen.com 😉
we gotta do another dinner soon, and i’m scared with holidays coming, it’s going to be tough. maybe i should write a little note to our list, “is this thing still on!?”.

  3. I keep coming around in case you talk about your housewares purchases or eBay furniture finds.

  4. Remove you from my blogroll? Never!
I’ve been a bit lazy with my own blog, but like you, I’m working on a comeback. I visit your blog often and will continue to do so. Keep up the good work!

  5. yeah.. i noticed that the longer one’s blog, the more ‘selective’ one’s entry becomes. perhaps, its becoz ur web presence is now known to more people. i sometime like to read back my old archives and i noticed that i use to write recklessly. but as time goes by, my blog entry becomes more ‘casual’ and i dont rant as much. i wonder if this is becoz im getting ‘older’?? :p
keep on writing ursula, eventhough u dont want to update as often as before 🙂

  6. There is no way you are leaving my blogroll. Because of you, I have found some absolutely fantastic new books to read…(Mil Milington…what a find!) and because of you, I have learned the joys of E-Bay. There are quite a few things I have gained from reading your site that had nothing to do with the people in your life.
It can’t be fun to feel the need to limit what you write about but at the same time, you are right, it’s the safest thing seeing as you have your name on your site. And even if you do eventually get comfortable talking about events with friends and colleagues, you are right that you should never talk about your job in great detail on your blog…unless you can keep it anonymous…like, if you worked in a restaurant or something…(which I am not implying you do, merely illustrating that a job such as that is completely anonymous) and never tell anyone the company name. Too many people have lost their jobs and some friends because of the blog so I agree with your choice.
But, if you feel an urge to introduce more books to us…by all means, WRITE about them!

  7. I view my blog as a personal, private thing. I never told any of my family about it and no one at work knows about. A few people know I am a blogger but I refuse to tell anyone the name. I do write about people I know…names changed of course…but it is my private place to vent. Other bloggers may read and comment but the likelyhood of anyone I know actually finding my blog is slim and if they do all the names are changed to protect the innocent. All the drama is true. The drama may be recognized but that drama may be going on at many/infinite places around the world. No proof it is me.

  8. Please add me to our blogroll. I have just begun my blog. I added you to mine. Is there anyway to make your blog more anonymous? Change the names? Or do to many real people you know, know that this is your blog?
