Illinois Senatorial Republican Candiate Jack Ryan

I’m listening to Illinois Republican Senatorial candidate Jack Ryan hang himself on WBEZ Chicago Public Radio. Asked several times in various ways, Ryan won’t flatly deny the allegations that he took his wife to sex clubs at least three times and forced her to have sex in front of other people. Granted this has nothing to do with whether or not he would be a good Senator, but I think his candidacy is dead in the water. I was already of the opinion that Barack Obama was going to win but now he’s going to win by an even bigger margin. I just don’t think the voters of Illinois are going to give Mr. Ryan a pass. If he is of the opinion that the allegations are trivial, why try to keep the divorce records sealed? I just don’t buy the argument that he was trying to protect his son. Divorce proceedings can get quite ugly, but I think there is some truth to the allegations. If they weren’t true, he’d deny them so he could try and save his chances of actually winning the open Senate seat.

  1. I got a kick out of hearing the allegations. Not that I think that wanting to go to sex clubs makes you a bad person, but if you are a republican senatorial candidate, it probably makes you a hypocrite and probably unelectable.
I’ll be curious what is done at the national level, with the senate so closely divided and this could turn the senate over to the Democrats.

  2. Oh, I think the RNC is going to stay away from Illinois. They already viewed the state as a lost cause but these allegations against Ryan are a nail the coffin. Can you imagine George Bush aka Mr. Family Values on the same stage as Jack Ryan? I really don’t see that happening.

  3. It’s too bad, IMO. Jack Ryan was a fairly “light” republican compared to most…it was the only reason he even had a shot. Obama, OTOH, is not someone I am thrilled about voting for.

  4. It appears that there is a real double standard here when Bill Clinton in the last week makes it big in the press with his sexual exploits in his book. Ryan is a big looser with his exploits?
It seems to me that when Je$$e Jack$on was caught giving Operation Push money to his mistress — because he is a Democrat nobody cares. Yep a real double standard here.

  5. I think there is a difference between Clinton and Ryan. Clinton was already in office and when news did come it, it absolutely had an effect on his presidency with impechment proceedings and such. Had he been running for presidency and something similar had come out about him, I think he would have suffered the same kind of scrutiny Ryan did…but on a much broader scale due to the type of office he was running for.
Kinda-sorta the same thing with Jesse Jackson, although he doesn’t hold a government office…so it’s not quite the same. I’m sorry, but I don’t recall the news of the money being given to his mistress…etc.
