Pets on the Bed

Issues continue between Racquetball Guy and Choo-Choo. Specifically, Racquetball Guy wants Choo-Choo out of the bedroom or at least off the bed. In that Choo-Choo has been allowed for so long to jump/sleep on the bed, this is a really hard habit to break. So curious about how others feel about allowing pets on the bed. Based on this article, looks like this could be a source of conflict for some couples. I myself am willing to defer to Racquetball Guy on this issue since he has allergies (not necessarily related to cats), but it will probably take some time for both Choo-Choo and I to get use to this change. In the meantime, the excessive meowing continues.

  1. Hello Ursula,
I am sorry to hear that R.G has allergies to cats.
I am also allergic to cats. My bestfriend Juanita
has cats and dogs and sometimes I find it hard to breath because of my constant sneezing and coughing due to exsposure to her animals. Oh, she even has a pet rat that lives in a cage. I love my friend so much because she has a heart of gold that’s why I still go to see her. I hate medication , so that’s out. Well, Juanita’s boyfriend is also allergic to cats but her cats even jump onto the bed when the two of them are having sexual moments. He just throws them out and closes the bedroom door. Poor cats they stand outside her bedroom door crying loudly as if telling him to leave their mommy alone. Can you imagine five adult cats crying loudly outside your bedroom door while you and R.G. makeout. Sad for them that their outside the door crying to be let back in but good for you that you are having good fun (smile) girl you know R.G. is doing something right or you wouldn’t be sneaking around with him. Don’t worry about R.G. or your cat, they will both adjust to eachother.Take care my beautiful sister of color. I hope things work out for the best for you and R.G.

  2. Kick the cat out of the bed. The sooner the better. I have had cats most of my life and never would have believed that I would sleep better if there were no cats in the bed. I kicked the cat out of the bed when I had my first baby (baby was in my bedroom for the first 6 months). My cats weren’t happy about being kicked out of the room but they got used to it – 5 years later they don’t even bug me any more (and still love me) and I’m still enjoying my pet fur-free bed.

  3. i don’t really understand the letting a pet on the bed…hell furniture thing. 8 cats. 5 dogs. never once let one on my bed, a chair, couch, etc. that just was not acceptable to my mom, as such it isn’t to me.
your biggest problem is choo choo is not just spoiled but, as a cat, he’s territorial. now, rgb is taking over his space. you wouldn’t like it if the shoe was on the other paw now would you? i know damn sure i wouldn’t. it would be one thing if you were the one changing things or had started it earlier. if you don’t watch it, you’re gonna have one pissed off cat and it is not going to be pretty.
you should look into some alternatives ie better allergy meds, cutting cc’s hair, hanging out at his place more often as opposed to yours, having cc stay away for a few days while you make attempts at re-training cc yourself, etc.

  4. i meant having rgb stay away for a few day obviously

  5. Wow…I don’t know…I’m on Choo-Choo’s side here. He was there before RaquetBall Guy, RbG knew you had a cat…and if his allergies aren’t cat related…
I don’t know how spoiled your cat is but mine is spoiled!!!!!!! and there is no way I would “kick her off the bed” when someone new came around.
That is a tough one. Any sort of compromise? Maybe get a little bed for Choo-Choo and put it in the same room?
No one will agree with me and that’s fine…to me this is still a very tough call. Best of luck.

  6. I think it should be determined exactly why CC has to be off the bed. If RBG’s allergies are not “necessarily” cat-dander induced…then what’s the point of kicking the cat out of the bed? I agree with Serenity, CC was there first…

  7. Hmm, we let the cats on the bed; the dog is never allowed on the furniture.
Both my wife and I had cats when we met, so the question was not whether or not to let cats on the bed but who had to wake up to stop them from fighting one another for rights to the bed. Once the cats finally worked that out, all was good – except that her cat steals my covers, but that is another story.
If the cat thing is not related to cat allergies, consider some sort of a compromise where Choo Choo sleeps on your side of the bed – give him permission to nudge or shift the cat away from him, but encourage Choo Choo to sleep between you and the side of the bed.
Otherwise, it sounds like you have two territorial males fighting for dominance over your private space.

  8. Racquetball Guy and I are not 100% certain that he is not allergic to Choo-Choo. Most times his allergies don’t act up. Overall, I think they both just need to get use to each other. There is progress in that area, but it’s just slow. Plus Choo-Choo likes to pounce when you’re not looking and Racquetball Guy is just not use to that. Also, I should say that Choo-Choo has two different beds of his own that often go unused. Everywhere in the apartment is his bed. So maybe he is a bit spoiled but I have faith that all will be well soon.

  9. well, hell, i said choo choo was there first in the first choo choo vs rgb post. didn’t think i had to re-iterate but yeah he was there first. it’s still a territory thing too.
did u establish if rgb actually likes animals, esp cats in the beginning?

  10. Yeah, he likes animals. He even mentioned wanting a dog. Of course, considering his crazy work schedule don’t see how that is really possible but hey, what do I know.

  11. I’m up at 5am partially because I woke up with two cats on my legs and one on my head. Ironically, they don’t ever dare lay paw on my husband’s side of the bed, just mine. If I could effectively throw them out of the bedroom without them scratching and meowing at the door to be let back in, I would in a heartbeat.

  12. Tsukata and I had bedroom issues with Maggie early on in the relationship. Seems Maggie’s favorite place to sleep was on my stomach, which wasn’t my favorite place for her to sleep. That, combined with claws were making it difficult for me to get to sleep. So now, on weeknights, we close the door to the bedroom, but occasionally, on weekends, when we are able to sleep in, we leave the door open.

  13. I hate to tell you this, BUT…
    Choo-Choo will prevail.
    Cats have amazing power.

  14. I’m on Choo Choo’s side. As far as he knows his life is being disrupted and he doesn’t know why. Frankly he probably doesn’t care. What he does know is that another male is invading his territory and he’s obviously a little pissed off by that. I’m sure he and RGB will come to an agreement, let’s just hope it’s soon. Cats can be vindictive when pissed.

  15. I wish you great success, good luck and a lot of fun for the future. Maybe one day you will really be the best of all.

  16. I really enjoy being here. It’s so nice here.
