Malta Goya

MaltaGoya.jpg

I purchased a six pack of Malta Goya last night and I’m trying my best to drink in moderation. If you’re not familiar, Malta Goya is a “rich, non-alchoholic soft drink, brewed from barley and hops.” You typically only find these at ethnic grocery stores. They are so delicious. Yummy!!!!

  1. i just saw an entire aisle-end shelf full of that at the dollar store. i didn’t know what it was so i didnt get any.

  2. Yeah…me and a bunch of friends tried it because we were bored…and we all puked. Big Time. The malta goya sucked large portions of ass. Thank you and Goodnight.

  3. Just bought some tonight…yeah …..it is yummy!
used to work with a lot of dominicans who used to drink it all the time. I will admit though it is a bit of an aquired taste.

  4. I love the stuff—very hard to find in Oklahoma!!

  5. I like to know, if I can get this product in San Antonio, Tx. (Malta Goya) and where. Love it and can’t find it.
    Thanks

  6. It’s only 45 cents at our local grocery store. Love it.
I drink it like a fish.

  9. You may want to contact Goya Foods Company to figure out where you can purchase the malt locally:
    http://www.goya.com/english/about/contact_us.html
    Good Luck!

  10. If you add Captain Morgan Spiced Rum to the Malta Goya, you make it better in two ways: a) disguise the shitty taste. b) there is now alcohol in it. All you goya drinkers out there should give it a shot….of rum, that is.

  11. i discovered it driving though the wonderful state of arkansas where it was $.99 for 10 8oz bottles. i got it as a gag gift for a friend and thats what it did, make us gag. i also have to agree with jenny, rum makes it better even though it still tastes like drinking a loaf of rancid wheat bread.

  12. omg I practically lived on that stuff (grew up with it cause my daddy’s cuban and loves it)…man it doesn’t exist in Chicago, Oregon or Morongo Basin as far as I know..I have only found it back home in MD all over the place..I miss it so bad..I really want some right now =(

  13. I’ve been drinking this stuff since I was a wee baby! Omg! It’s the best beverage in the world… Well second to Pepsi.
I grew up on it since my father is Puerto Rican and whenever I get the chance to buy it, I do without hestitaion. I even try introducing it to other people. Good stuff.

  14. I would like to know if it is true that if you drink malta goya hot and shaken…it can cause an abortion…”miscarriage”?

  15. this shit sux fuckin donkey balls i bought a bottle for 59 cents it tastes like shit i took a sip and i thought my balls were chopped off and handed to me omg the company should be blown the fuck up dont ever by this product unless you want to taste satans piss in a bottle.

  16. I WAS RAISED ON THE STUFF AND THANK GOD AT THE AIR FORCE COMISSARY SELLS IT. SOME OF YALL MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAND IT OR LIKE IT. ITS A PUERTO RICAN THING

  17. It IS a puerto rican thing, hence the Goya tag. I, too, was raised on the nectar of life we call “Malta Goya” and can say nothing ill other than the aftertaste 19min later. The grocery store near my house JUST started stocking an isle with Goya products and when I saw the 12 pack… well… the happy dance couldn’t be contained. Hooray (almost) beer!

  18. I love Malta so much, but it’s definitely a Puerto Rican thing. None of my non-Hispanic friends like it, but I’ve made them all try it. I always tell them that the first non-Hispanic guy I meet that likes Malta will be the one I marry. 🙂

    • Hey! I’m white, and I love the stuff! Then again, I’m from Southern Florida, so my tastes are different then most Caucasian Americans!

  19. the shit smells like cat food and spagetti sauce. It tastes like it too. it kinda looks like something you would find in a septic tank. Who the hell would want to drink it for pleasure. they should make you drink it on fear factor. its fucking hell in a bottle.

  20. I woulb’t say it’s just a puerto rican thing, it’s sold all over the Caribbean, it’s an aquired taste though but once it’s aquired it’s the best, man i love this stuff

  21. yo, malta rocks! a puerto rican girl i used to work with introduced me to it… she always had it around, so one day i asked what it was (since i love pretty much all things with malt in them). hooked on it ever since.

  22. I just finished my first bottle of Malta Goya and found it odd but tasty, sort of like molasses soda. I’ll be trying it again! A local grocery (Rochester, MN) carries it.

  23. is there any stores in michigan that carrys malta goya send me a message please love to try it

  24. Vitarroz® Malta is so much better than the goya shit. Try that stuff and definately stay away from malta india (TRUST ME. IT MAKES MALTA GOYA SEEM LIKE A DELICACY IN JUXTAPOSITION)

  25. I just went out and bought one. I dont usually drink them but for some reason I had a craving for one. 🙂

  26. Malta is the best drink ever!!!!!!!

  27. Malt beverages like Malta Goya and others, such as Malta India and Malta El Sol (my current favorite), do require an acquired taste but it’s quite easy to acquire that taste when you know what’s in it – some real good stuff, like dark roasted barley malt, caramel malt, corn syrup, fructose, porterine, molasses, and hops.
If you already like malts (as in malted milk), beer, ale, stout, malt liquor, or hard liquor, these usually being an acquired taste as well, then you already enjoy cereal beverages, or learned to, so non-alcohol malt beverages like Malta Goya are easy to include for enjoyment as well.
Yes, they’re sweet but unless you have an aversion to sweets, this shouldn’t be a problem. As for myself, I’m ‘lucky’ enough to be a “supertaster”, and I’m particularly sensitive to bitterness, so when I was offered a Guinness stout recently, I carefully poured out a small amount first for a taste test – YUK!!! Was it horrendously bitter!!! But it looked so good – a nice and dark cereal beverage. Too bad the bitterness made me feel like throwing up.
Then I thought about the yummy malt beverages and got some of each, Malta Goya, Malta India, and Malta El Sol – ALL of them available at Chicagoland Cub Foods stores – now that’s more like it! If only Guinness could make their stout that good – or at least get rid of the bitterness. And I don’t miss the alcohol?
Malta Goya-like beverages are really yummy, particularly when it’s known what’s in them. Then it’s easy to appreciate and savor every delicious drop.

  28. Malta Goya? Love it. Mom used to buy it for our household when I was a kid. Now I’m doing a small paper on the drink for Spanish class. I put ‘malta goya’ into Google and your lil’ site came up. Yes, I love it. There are other brands under the names of Pony Malta, Malta India, and El Sol.

  29. It seems like people either love or hate malta. If find Goya a bit too strong, especially if it is not icy cold. I do like it as a float with vanilla ice cream though. I drank malta in Venezuela that I liked better because it was not as strong. I do not remember the brand name. Speaking of food that people love or hate, go to a large oriental food store and buy a durian (fruit). You will probably have to buy a frozen one, and it could be relatively expensive, however, it is worth tasting because there is noting else like it in the world. Thaw it well and be prepared for cutting through a tough rind with sharp spines. People say it tastes like heaven but smells like hell. I don’t mind the strong onion odor when I’m eating it, but definitely do not like to burp an hour later.

  30. Malta India is the best!

  31. I just posted an essay about malta on my blog at: http://www.livejournal.com/users/casadetodd/25591.html . The post includes info on where to buy it in L.A. and Portland, Oregon. Calling international grocery stores in your hometown might also turn up a supply, or go to a Cuban restaurant–you can usually order a Malta Hatuey.
I’ve tried various brands of malta in Cuba, the U.S., and Costa Rica. It’s true that people either love or hate malta…I love it!

  32. My email address is casadetodd@yahoo.com if anyone wants to contact me. I may eventually create a malta website.

  33. Ever since I could remember I adore malta. My father worked in a molasses factory in Cuba and he often brought malta by the liter. I find the taste to be adictive :)I agree, you either love it or hate it. I hate root beer.

  34. We bought Malta Goya tonight at Trigs because our co worker Jose drinks it like I drink Schnapps. And we almost died gagging on it in my basement! FUCK MALTA GOYA!

  35. i think malta goya is the best thing in the world and any one who thinks it sucks donky balls ” go suck your mamma’s balls !!!!

  36. Hi guys I was doing a search on malta and I end up here. Anyways I am puertorican and one of my favorite drinks is Malta here in Florida I buy the brand Malta India on 32 oz bottles I buy a case of 12 every week is around $20.00 bucs. I reed some guy had got a bad experiance drinking it, a good tip drink it cold do not mix with ice just chill it in the fridge.
Also you can make power drinks with it but that is another post have fun drinking it.

  37. Goya Malta is way too sweet. I’ve lived in Puerto Rico for 3 years and I was always afraid to try it. When I gave up alcohol, I realized that I really liked the taste of G.Stout but I didn’t like the alcohol. I ran into some Goya in Florida and tried it. Too sweet. I said to myself if they would cut the sweetness it would possiblly taste ok. So I ran an experiment – I added vinegar to the Goya to cut the sweetness -it almost tasted like beer! The next day I subed the vinegar for lemon juice and what an improvement! It taste better than Guinness Stout! I finally have my beer substitute without any alcohol at all!!! Thanks Goya – and lemon juice.

  38. Rumor has it that malta is excellent for weight gain. I’m 5’7″, 146 lbs, and currently involved in a weight training program at the local gym. Would malta be a useful supplement for me, or would I just grow a beer gut and chewy love handles? Would truly appreciate a response!

  39. Where can I find information about all the malta brands available?

  40. wazgood ma pplz. malta goya is da shytt. ma fam is puerto rican n always drinks dat stuff. Das da drink rite there. hatas cud kiss ma fat puerto rican ass.

  41. Malta idia I though It was dominican , Oh Well Malta Goya Rocks!! I been drinking since i was little, One time I got Pull over in Ohio, Since Those white cops didnt know what it was, they though it was a alcholic beverages…

  42. Malta idia I though It was dominican , Oh Well Malta Goya Rocks!! I been drinking since i was little, One time I got Pull over in Ohio, Since Those white cops didnt know what it was, they though it was a alcholic beverages…

  43. LOL, well if you read carefully malta goya has a .3% alcohol volume and its the natural red bull, try drinking a whole malta when you have to stay up and man nothing works better! you are drinking insanely pure malt which contains all that hyper suger ingridient that will make you feel energized!

  44. I’m Dominican and I growed up drinking Maltas at my country and when I came to USA I founded diferent companies of malta makers (goya el sol vitarroz etc.) some of them are the same shit with diferent name, for example malta goya and malta vitarroz are brewed in the same place, Malta is a very good source of taste calories and vitamins, but I dont trust it any more in this country since I found a disgusted vitarroz bottle of malt.

  45. malta does have an acquired taste in general. i love all of the brands except one (can’t remember which) that tastes awful. just drank one right now and im drinking them to gain weight. i just get tired of all the weird looks I get when i drink them at work and have to go through explaining what it is, since it looks like a beer.

  46. Malta India is the most addictive of all malt beverages. If you do not like it straight up and chilled, try mixing in a third of Pet Milk. No, not milk you give your kitty or anything, but the brand “Pet Milk”. It’s evaporated milk that you just pour in your glass after pouring your malt beverage on ice. Mix together and serve. Yum! I highly recommend this method of drinking it. Taste it and you’ll be hooked!

  47. When I drank malta for the first time I honestly thought Catherine Zeta-Jones was blowing me; if I had the option of getting a pool filled with that stuff then beating off in the inner-tube every morning, or getting a gold plated pair of tighty-whities I’d had the pool.

  48. When me dank that shit for the first time I thought I had feet in my mouth. Beans and burning hair do not make a good beverage. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got to throw up dat dank shit, then go bother the local black people.

  49. Malta Goya is ok, Malta India is the shit, i love that stuff, it most def is an aqquired taste some people say it tastes like frosted flakes. i grew up drinking this stuff in puerto Rico and Malta India is the only way to go

  50. GOYA is what alows me to make it through the school day. At snack, my friends and I race to Giant to purchase this tasty beverage, we have become so addicted, we ussualy require 3 to get the happy gleeful feeling accomanied with downing a bottle. The refrescos are damn good. damnnnnn good. plus, they have alot of suger. If you drink them lying down, you will become lightheaded. This makes you happy for a short time. Then we go to class. and pass out. I love goya. If it was a women i would marry it. If it was a plant I would water it. If it was an animal I would wear its fur.

  51. Only thing bad about Malta Goya is when you run out. I have one bottle left out of my 12 bottle family pack (four dollars baby!) and am beginning to feel sad.
PS I didnt share any with my family

  52. I can’t stand the stuff (it’s what I would expect anti-freeze to taste like) but my boyfriend is in love with it. We live in Chicago and he gets it at the Jewel right by the UIC medical buildings.

  53. Try a warm malta and an alka seltzer and you have the best cure for hangovers and dry heaves. It also stops vomiting and gastrointestinal distress. It’s the malt that’s effective. It’s the same stuff you buy in the drug store to stop vomiting only cheaper. The warm malta works the best, but you can take a cold malta if too unpleasant tasting. .
I grew-up on the stuff and I think it taste great chilled as a refereshing summer-time drink.

  54. Malta is the best drink ever, I love it specially with condenced milk. , it taste great. I tryed to make all my non-hispanic try it but they all hate it. I’ve made a conclusion, if you don’t have the hispanic gene, you won’t like malta.

  55. White dudes love malta too! Goya, Hatuey, or India, its all good!!!

  56. HATUEY IS THE SUPREME LORD OF ALL MALTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you never had it, you don’t know what you’re missing, YOU HAVEN’T HAD REAL MALTA UNTIL YOU TRY “HATUEY’S MALTA” buy it here: http://store.amigofoods.com/maha6pa12ozb.html

  57. Goya malta is GREAT, I love it so much, I have to watch how much i drink.. ITS REALY GOOD STUFF.. hence: GOYA MALTA ROCKZ!

  58. I just LOVE Malta India! It’s been years since I’ve had one, but I still fondly remember the taste…maybe it does take a Hispanic gene to really appreciate the stuff…you white guys don’t know what you’re missing!

  59. the description some of u guys that don’t like malta gave showes me just how stupid and ignorant you are…malta is a very tasty bevorage…if u dont like it ohh well to each their own

  60. A friend of mine gave me the malta india to try- and I tell you the truth… it tastes like sparkling prune juice. Now, if that sounds appealing to you, or like something you want to indulge in… then find out where it is being sold in your part of town.

  61. this is wicked good stuff, my mom is puerto rican and we drink it like water…

  62. I am in serious search for Malta El Sol – the kind I drank as a kid…. Am now pregnant w/ 4th baby & really craving it. Can only find the Goya one here in WalMart – upstate New York……Please help! Do they even make El Sol anymore?????

  63. Malta Gayo the taste lasts forever

  64. Do they sell Malta in Malta?

  65. I’m non-hispanic and I think malta is a good drink. Those that belittle the drink, would probably belittle the one’s that like the drink also. SAD!
    Wanod

  66. I’m also non-hispanic. I discovered Pony Malta in Colombia, and I love it! Went to a package store and they only had goya malta in tiny little 10-pack bottles. Anybody know if any of the maltas are available in SF bay area, such as Safeway or Andronicos?
Also where can I get some almojabanas!!!

  67. Shit,,,, Malta. all that needs to be said. The drink of Boricuas everywhere. this shit is the bomb. mix it with evaporated milk. some like it with ice but i think its better warm. Malta kicks ass. For those who say otherwise, their just too much of a pendejo to handle it.
    ASK ME ABOUT MY MALTA!

  68. I am a Puerto Rican and I like to shake up a bottle and stick it up my ass. I can get the bottle all the way up to my prostate gland before I blow a load. Good stuff.

  69. Malta Goya is Banging!… I love the stuff… im non hispanic and still love the drink… i went down to PR for a while and ever since got hooked on it…also the medallas n don Q but its all good… if you never had a Malta Goya go to ya local bodega or some grocery stores carry it… anyways once you buy it you’ll be hooked

  70. My boyfriend is panamanian and he grew up off the stuff, and when we first started dating, he would try to get me to drink it and I thought it was the nastiest shyt in the world! Now..I freakin love it!! It is an aquired taste and YES IT DOES MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT! I have been 5’4” 110lbs since I was like 16, and Ive had trouble keeping weight on me. I am now 22, and Ive been drinking atleast two maltas a day with a full meal for probably two weeks because we just moved to an AFB that sold it, and I weighed myself yesterday and I weighed in 125 lbs!! Never in my life have I been this heavy!! Which is why I googled it to see if anyone else had weight gain!

  71. Malta India is way better
