Six Month Update

Goodness! Where has the time gone? It’s been six months since I’ve updated this blog which is not ideal since I’d really like to be consistent with documenting my personal history. Oxjam Brixton

Off the success of Oxjam Clapham earlier in the month, decided to volunteer for Oxjam Brixton. For this event, I was a venue steward at Market House. This meant that I checked wrist bands as people came through. I also sold programmes, raffle tickets and wrist bands to those that hadn’t already purchased. Finally, I was responsible for informing the stage manager when the artistes arrived. It was all so much fun! One of the acts I really enjoyed was Tribo Band. One for One Movement

One of the corporate sponsors for Oxjam Clapham was TOMS a company that started a one for one movement. This means that with every pair of their shoes purchased, the company gives a pair of new shoes to a child in a developing country. And since the company started in 2006, they have given over 2 million pairs of shoes to needy children across the globe. Now that is very impressive. Oxjam Clapham

With London 2012 behind me, I’ve been looking for other volunteer opportunities; projects more local to my area or those that are raising funds for a charity. The first real opportunity came via one of the London 2012 Facebook groups. Specifically, a fellow Ceremonies Volunteer Performer advertised that she was looking to recruit volunteers for Oxjam Clapham Takeover Festival. I jumped at the opportunity as it was a music festival all in aid of Oxfam whose mandate is to fight poverty and injustice across the globe.
