In less than 24 hours I'll be in Paris for the first time. And the fact that I'm going alone, is no longer dampening my excitement. Truth be told, I won't be alone exactly. The first part of the trip is for business, but the latter part is pure pleasure. As such, I'm so excited I almost don't know what to do with myself. Hopefully the excitement doesn't cause me to forget any of the French phrases I've been practicing. More importantly, here's hoping the Paris lives up to my expectations.

I went to Paris solo a few years ago and had the time of my life! It is one of the best trips I've taken. You are going to have a ball. It's a great city for a woman traveling alone -- busy like NYC so there's always people around, great transit system, easy walking, etc. I was out every night until well after 1 a.m. and I stayed in the 5th Arr. (Latin Quarter area) and never felt unsafe walking around late. There's a thriving Afro-French community in the 18th Arr. that you might want to check out, and a great restaurant near the Champs-Elysse whose name escapes me that's owned by a Black American and had a gospel brunch on Sundays and serves soul food/"low country" style food. Shopping and museum-hopping alone will exhaust you. Bring good walking shoes -- my feet were swollen everyday from walking so much. Go to the Eiffel Tower at sunset. The view is spectacular anyway but truly breathtaking then. Have fun!
