I’m not a big beer drinker, but the guide book listed the 140 year-old Heineken Brewery as a don’t miss, so I talked my friends into visiting. And let me say that I’m glad I did. The experience was interactive and the drinks included in the entrance fee (three Heineken’s) helped make the experience which was a little silly at times, more fun. Surprisingly we spent three hours there. Oh sure, it’s really just a marketing ploy for the company, but it was still fun.
After the brewery, we walked to the Magere Brug “the skinny bridge” which is apparently the most photographed bridge in Amsterdam. Main reason is that the area, as is much of Amsterdam, is quite picturesque -- and with snow falling today, it was extremely beautiful but also very cold. I felt like I was back in Chicago.
After that, we walked back to Leidseplein area for hot chocolate at Three Sisters Grand Pub. Then a late lunch at The Pancake Corner. Followed by drinks back at the American Hotel. Followed by more food and drinks at Grand Cafe Heineken. Hey, it was cold and with snow falling fast that make walking about outside not too appealing.
