Why is it that when you are gaining weight, no one really says anything? However, when you are loosing weight, everyone comments. Yeah yeah, I know weight gain is a sensitive subject, but that is when you most need people to be supportive. That is when you need your real friends (not casual acquaintances or coworkers) to ask you what the heck is going on and better yet help you get back on course. Then again, who I am kidding. I already feel bad about the weight gain, having someone get on my case will probably only make it worse. So never mind! Ignore what I said above.

I think you hit the nail on the head. When people know you are trying to lose weight they are going to be super supportive and postitive. Gaining weight - unless that is your goal - would require them to be supportive in a negative way. Most people are loath to go there with people they love let alone ones that are only friends and acquaintances. It's an interesting point to ponder.
my mom has no problem telling me and my sister how much weight we've gained. that's part of the reason we avoid her.
Growing up, no one ever really hassled me about gaining weight. I suppose the reason for that is that I never really had a weight problem until I went to college. Then I got comments from one Aunt, but I saw her so infrequently and I already hated her, so I just discounted everything she said. Now here I am today, knowing that I need to do something before my weight gets out of control, but I can't get myself motivated enough to do something. It's all so frustrating.
