A Brief Rant

| 8 Comments | No TrackBacks

Ok, this might make me out to be cheap (which I'm really not), but I just want to get this rant out. Why is the cost for greeting cards now approaching the $4 mark? Good grief, most get thrown away so I hate to spend more than $2 on a card. Also, why is most non-Christmas wrapping paper and gift bags so expensive? Since these almost always end up in the trash, I'd rather put the money towards the gift, and use white paper to wrap the gift. Of course, I know that's not as aesthetically pleasing, but isn't it what's inside that matter? Oie vay!

Urs. Get me a gift. And I promise I won't care what you wrap it in. :)

The high prices of greeting cards make me want to break out the arts & crafts stuff and make my own for whatever occasion. Some of the people who'd receive the cards would probably appreciate the extra effort, but I know there'd be others who'd just toss the card like anything else. The excessive number of greeting cards for an equally excessive number of holidays just desensitize people these days.

Paying a lot for wrapping paper always bothers me. I still use the funny papers, so I try to come off not looking "cheap" but "clever" ;)

Great idea Heather! A spin on that idea? If you live in a culturally diverse area, get an ethnic newspaper. I think it would be cool to get a gift wrapped in newsprint from a Chinese, Greek, whatever language.

Another "green" way to wrap it up is to use brown paper bags or brown craft paper and design your own! Add stickers, stamps, etc to personalize your package.

dollar stores!!! best place for wrapping paper :) or, handmade wrapping paper (ie, brown bags with your own stamps or something) and nice ribbon or thread.

i agree, cards are outrageous, though.

agreeing w/shasta. shit, u don't have to wrap it.

i'm with you though. cards are becoming outrageous. i now only buy paper and gift bags from dollar stores. you hit the right store and they're surprising pretty. dollar stores, odd lot type stores, and i forget the other name.

I'm a fan of the craft paper, then buying pretty ribbons or something. I keep ribbons and reuse them on other gifts or cards or in my hair. :)
