Yuck, was that a Cockroach?

I don't think I can go to my favorite lunch place anymore. Today, just as the waitress was putting food down at another table closeby, a bug (really cockroach) crawled across the plate. I didn't see the bug but it was supposedly HUGE. All four people who were at the table were so traumatized that they bolted out of restaurant. I can't say I really blame them. In that we had already eaten our lunch and were just sitting around shooting the breeze, we sat there in shock. And now I don't want to go back there. But bummed, as this burger pub was convenient, it had a great atmosphere and it served decent food. So I'm wondering, if you were there when this happened, would you go back?

My head would tell me that it's OK to go back, but my heart and my stomach would rebel at the idea. After all, if this happened in the dining area, you can only imagine how conditions must be in the kitchen.

There was a grasshopper in my salad at Hops two years ago and my stomach *still* won't let me return. Perhaps you could contact the health department and check up on the pub's most recent inspections?

After having worked in restaurants for over half my life to date I will tell you that EVERY restaurant EVERY where has cockroaches, no matter how clean it is.

Go back & enjoy yourself.

James, that's what I was thinking. That's why I didn't identify the restaurant by name. But you would expect to see bugs in the kitchen. Not crawling over a patron's plate. I suppose I'll give it some time. Maybe we'll go back for after work drinks -- getting food there again might be a long way off.

I went to chinese food joint on Broadway many many moons ago. While I was waiting for take out, two cockroaches crawled out on the counter had a little roach conversation and then got into a fight. I didn't wait to find out how it ended. I haven't been back since.

I was once told that every Chinese restaurant has cockroaches. That totally grosses me out - but it doesn't surprise me. We were at our favorite Thai house one night and a cockroach scurried across the floor. I was grossed out and definitely checked my food v carefully the next time we went - but we're still going there. Yes, there are health department standards - and maybe it should be checked out - but you wouldn't stop eating at a friend's house cos they had a spider in the kitchen, would you?
