You Like Me! You Really Like Me!

I came home tonight to find two different packages waiting for me. I was completely surprised as I hadn't ordered anything. After opening, I realized that two of my blog readers sent me books. From my Amazon wish list, Becky from Becky's Journal sent me: Tepper Isn't Going Out by Calvin Trillin. The second book sent by "His Written Words" is: The Moviegoer by Walker Percy. After reading the description on Percy's book (which was not on my wish list), I couldn't help but laugh out loud. It's just the sort of book I like to read. So can't wait to tackle both. Unfortunately, I can't start until I finish rereading A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole since I'm leading book club next Thursday. In any event, a public THANK YOU to both Becky and His Written Words. You've both made my day. I'll be sure to report back after I finish reading them both.

Yay! You're very welcome. I actually was wavering between Tepper and the Moviegoer, as both are really fabulous, so I'm sure you'll love both!

I've watched 76 of the 100 Greatest American Movies (I know, previous post) and I don't mean to be smart-alecky here, but "Moviegoer" IS #4 on your Wish List...even though it is unavailable from Amazon. Also, I must say that "Confederacy of Dunces" sits among my top 25 favorite books...in spite of its dour mood. You'll be busy, for sure! :)

That's awesome. Maybe I need to post my wish list in a more prominent location! I really liked Tepper Isn't Going Out. In places it seemed a little TOO deliberately clever, but for the most part it was a fun read. I'll look forward to your review. :)

Philip,
Don't ruin the image. I liked it better when I didn't remember putting Moviegoer on my wishlist -- and thought the person randomly picked it out for me! Either way, it was still really good of them to send. I can't wait to start reading.

Btw, I too loved Confederacy of Dunces. I read it about 10 years ago. And since so much time has passed thought I would reread since I selected the book and am leading the discussion for book club. It should be interesting! It's part of my top 25 too, but my view on the book has changed. More on that later.

If you like Confederacy of Dunces, try to find a copy of The Neon Bible. O'toole wrote it when he was sixteen or something and it was only published when it was discovered after his death. It's really phenomenal.

cheers,

Andrew

Thanks for reminding me about The Neon Bible. I've been meaning to read it for the longest time. So now putting in on my list of summer reads!
