We Ready For The Road

Basherter cultivated my musical tastes. Specifically, he introduced me to a lot of different soca artistes. One of my favorites is Bunji Garlin who is now getting a lot of praise for his song: Differentology which was one of the biggest anthems throughout the Caribbean Carnival season and is now making a major impact in North America. I say that as it actually won a Soul Train Award for Best International Performance and now has been named the MTV IGGY Song of the Year. So how awesome for Bunji and soca music in general.

Michael Jackson: Thriller

An instrumental version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller being on the 100 Classic Spooky Songs and Tunes album plus a commenter (Kath) linking to a video with another version of the song sent me looking for the original. The song and classic zombie video were all so iconic when it came out near 30 years ago. Halloween 2012: 100 Classic Spooky Songs and Tunes

The first Halloween I spent in London, I went all out. I purchased near £30 worth of candy and decorated the windows with lights and festive Halloween bunting. I did so as I lived in Wimbledon on a street with children and so anticipated I’d get quite a few visitors for trick-or-treat. Much to my surprise, no one came – absolutely NO ONE! Oxjam Brixton

Off the success of Oxjam Clapham earlier in the month, decided to volunteer for Oxjam Brixton. For this event, I was a venue steward at Market House. This meant that I checked wrist bands as people came through. I also sold programmes, raffle tickets and wrist bands to those that hadn’t already purchased. Finally, I was responsible for informing the stage manager when the artistes arrived. It was all so much fun! One of the acts I really enjoyed was Tribo Band.
