Going All In

About two weeks ago, I looked at my blog and shook my head because once again my postings had become sporadic. Mainly because my blogging time is being spent on social networks like Facebook and Twitter. And while there isn’t anything wrong with that, I shouldn’t be putting all my effort into those network; either for personal or even business reasons.

Neither Facebook or Twitter were around when I started this blog twelve years ago. And granted they and others like Instragram and Pinterest are currently thriving, there are no guarantees that they’ll be around 10 years from now. What is guaranteed, is that God willing, I’ll still be here and I’ll own the domain barzey.com and all others that I choose to register.

Thus it’s more sensible to create content for my own sites and then use the social media sites as distribution channels. I’m not suggesting that the content shared be exactly the same (as it’s liable to annoy fans & followers), but really, as these social media companies get more sophisticated and develop their pay to play models, it makes sense to curate my content on my own blogs.

With this in mind, I’ve launched another 30 day blog challenge with a few friends. The goal is to go all in and stay all in. Thus, I’ve spent much of this evening researching and listing out a number of blog posts for the coming weeks that will be shared here as well as my Moxee Marketing site. I’m doing this as long term; writing for the sites I own is a better gamble for developing my personal and business brands. So we’ll do this Vegas style. I’m the house and so gosh darn it, moving forward, I’m going to start acting like it!

  1. It’s easy to forget how meaningful and rare it still is to have and post to a site of one’s own. I’ve found nothing else like it to foster a sense of your mind over time. Everything else points in too many useless directions and seems too focused on other people’s activities and attention spans.

  2. You always have great insights Ursula so I’m looking forward to all of your posts.
