Relationships

So last night after my alumni association board meeting, I went to diner at Carmine’s to celebrate a friend’s birthday. During the course of conversation, everyone was providing updates about their relationships; in my case lack thereof. It’s sad to say, but it’s been almost a year since I’ve been on a “REAL” date and about 2 years since I’ve been in a relationship. Everyone always assumes that I’m dating someone. Hardly anyone ever asks me out. I’m not really sure why that is. For a while I thought if I maybe lost some weight, men would find me more attractive. Then someone told me that I could be intimidating and don’t seem very approachable. I’m not really sure I buy that, but among other things, I’m trying to smile more. Whatever the reason, I’m not meeting enough single men. So to increase my odds, I may sign up for match.com sometime this spring. Quite a few of my girlfriends are using the service. Their results are mixed, I still might just give it a try. If nothing else, I’ll get some interesting stories to tell.

  1. It’s probably a mix of a lot of things. But I think match.com is a good idea. It couldn’t hurt.

  2. Yes! Yes! Having had many conversations with you on this issue, well aware of what you think. So it would be nice to know what others thing, but I know most of my readers don’t really know me in real life..so I really don’t expect to get any real feedback here. I’m just venting. Oh well!!

  3. All I have to say is that I’ve personally been thinking about match.com and some of the other services for a while now. I’m just to lazy to create a profile.

  4. Well I would prefer for one of my friends to set me up. But the chances of that happening are pretty slim…so I’m ready to explore options like match.com

  5. My friends have tried setting me up. One in particular is very aggressive. It just doesn’t work. I don’t think my friends know me very well. 🙂 I keep getting set up with these young, alcoholic party girls. I outgrew that many years ago. I like to have as much as the next guy, but I prefer a more mellow kind of fun.

  6. Sounds like you need to get new friends. Just kidding! Perhaps they just want to see you dating someone…anyone! What people sometimes fail to realize is that it’s better to be single than be in an awful relationship.
